Henri Cartier Bresson was born in France and he was the oldest of five children. After trying to learn music, he was introduced to oil paintings. He then went to a private art school where he learned more about the arts. Cartier went to the University of Cambridge where he studied English art and literature. A photograph from Munkacsi inspired Bresson to turn from painting to photography.
Our group was inspired by Bresson's "the decisive moment" phrase which he used in natural looking photos. He took photos of people in real situations instead of people doing poses. Most of his pictures look like he took them without the people knowing until the last minute.
